The Youth of the Year event was held in Juneau, February 17-18, 2009. Seven finalists traveled across the state to compete for the Alaska title. Aside from the competition, teens met individually with legislators, toured the Governor`s mansion, and were introduced on the House Floor. The seven youth finalists were:

Colin C.- Ft. Greely
Megan H.- Ft. Wainwright
Desiree H.- North East Community Center Boys & Girls Club
Megan G.- Metlakatla Boys & Girls Club
Todd M.- Elmendorf AFB
Josh S.- Fairbanks Boys & Girls Club
Savanna S.- Eielson AFB

Megan G. was awarded the Alaska Youth of the Year title, as well as one year`s tuition to the University of Alaska Anchorage, a $1000 scholarship from the Boys and Girls Club of Southcentral Alaska, and a $1000 scholarship from the Reader`s Digest Foundation. Megan will go to Disneyland this summer for the Pacific Regional competition- Good Luck Megan!
